July 14 – South African officials are expected to reveal Monday when the richest league in Africa will restart after being halted in March by the coronavirus pandemic.
Last month the country’s Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa urged the federation and the Premier Soccer League to work together to pave the way for a resumption, penning a letter to SAFA instructing the body to ensure the PSL and its 32-member clubs comply with stringent protocols amid suggestions that positive cases were not being made public.
Assuming the South African season resumes soon, it will be the first major football country to do so on the African continent to do so since the COVID-19-induced shutdown.
Tunisia have announced that its league will restart on August 2, five days before the Egyptian Premier League resumes.
It is anticipated that nine South African provinces will host the 54 outstanding league games, all behind closed doors.
