September 25 – Burnley could become the latest American-owned Premier League club with ALK Capital reportedly in talks to buy the club.
ALK Capital is fronted by Alan Pace, whose banking background includes both Citigroup and Lehman Brothers. In the past, Pace chaired Real Salt Lake in the MLS. With AiScout and Player Lens, two football technologies, he recently entered the UK football market.
Reuters reports that talks between the American group and the club are at an advanced stage to transfer ownership. Chairman and businessman Mike Garlick currently has a 49.24% stake, alongside John Banaszkiewicz, who owns 28.2% of the club’s shares.
Burnley operate on one of the smallest budgets in the Premier League, which led coach Sean Dyche recently to complain about a lack of investment in player personnel.
ALK Capital’s reported interest in Burnley confirms a recent surge in interest from American investors in English elite clubs. West Ham United and Southampton have also been approached by potential American owners.
The Saints have reportedly entered a period of exclusive negotiations with American Joseph DaGrosa – who has previously owned Bordeaux in France. He is envisaging a £200 million takeover of the club after Chinese owner Gao Jisheng put Southampton on sale earlier this year with a £250 million price tag.
