Clubs vs country: Premier League wants Brexit visa rules relaxed to keep its foreign player flow

October 27 – The English Premier League is reportedly plotting to bypass the country’s FA in an escalating row over what happens with player visas in the post-Brexit era, according to reports.

The Premier League believe import rules should be slackened whereas the FA want to reduce the number of foreign imports allowed in order to give homegrown players more of a chance.

With the deadline for a deal looming, the Premier League is apparently trying to persuade the British government to bring in a special visa system.

In a lengthy email sent to chairmen and chief executives and seen by the Daily Mail newspaper, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters outlines the differences of opinion saying the Premier League’s views “do not sit easily” with the FA’s position.

Masters claims the FA’s proposals “will reduce the talent available” and lower standards.

“While attempts have been made by both sides to narrow the gap, as things stand there remains a considerable distance,’” he added.

The two sides have been at loggerheards for years over how much access to foreign players Premier League clubs will have after Brexit.
