December 1 – Following the lead of their bigger brothers, Italy’s Serie B clubs have formed a new media rights company to manage the leagues marketing and broadcast assets.
Serie A has just approved a €1.7 billion bid from private equity firms CVC and Advent for a 10% stake in its new media business, Serie B clubs will likely go to market looking for similar private equity finance.
However, Serie B will not be in a position to command the same kind of investment. Its current broadcast deals amount to about €25 million with DAZN and state broadcaster Rai. However, there could be an opportunity for growth via OTT revenue.
Next season the Serie A will have more content to sell with the league having agreed expansion from 20 teams to 21.
