Tuchel questions Marquinos’  FIFA XI omission and wonders what’s best for player health

December 21 – Paris St Germain manager Thomas Tuchel (pictured) has questioned the absence of Marquinhos from last week’s FIFA XI Team of the Year, claiming that the Brazilian should have been included.

Marquinhos played an important role in PSG winning all four of the French domestic competitions last season while leading the club to the final of the Champions League.

“Marquinhos is Ballon d’Or level. I don’t understand his absence in the FIFA XI of the year,” Tuchel told reporters.

Tuchel, like many coaches, is also critical of the number of matches his side are having to play warning it could “kill the players” who will be  unable to recover in time. He has recently been without the likes of Neymar, Mauro Icardi, Presnel Kimpembe, Alessandro Florenzi and Layvin Kurzawa, while Kylian Mbappe too has been hampered by fitness issues of late.

“You already know my opinion, we are going to kill the players. We are always allowed to play at nine o’clock [in the evening]. We lack the rhythm to eat, sleep, recover. But it will continue like this. Are we surprised? No. “
