December 21 – Premier League Leeds United are selling a further 15% stake to the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers in a deal that will reportedly value the club at £240 million, and take their stake to 25%.
Paraag Marathe, the president of 49ers Enterprises, has sat on the Leeds United board since 2018 when they acquired an initial 10% for £10 million.
Both Marathe and Leeds United majority owner Andrea Radrizzani have said that they hoped and expected the 49ers to increase their stake in the club.
That initial investment by the 49ers in 2018 was when Leeds United were still in the championship, only being promoted last season. Radrizzani has been quoted as saying the investment is “already worth probably 3.5 times higher in terms of value” since promotion to the Premier League.
Leeds currently lie 14th in the Premier League table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
