April 29 – David Beckham tops the Sunday Times sport rich list in the UK, which is based on identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, significant shares in publicly quoted companies but excluding bank accounts.
The wealth of the top 100 richest sportsmen grew by 6.7% to 3.23 billion pounds this year.
David Beckham’s fortune is calculated at £165m, whilst his wife has another £35m.
Overall, footballers and managers make up 49 of the 100 sportsmen (yes they are all men) on the Sunday Times sport rich list. Wayne Rooney is the top Premier League player on £51m, ahead of Rio Ferdinand (£42m) and Michael Owen (£38m).
