Challenges to Le Graët’s FFA presidency mount as Moulin and Thiriez declare for election

January 11 – French FA president Noël Le Graët (pictured), who came under pressure for prematurely closing down last season’s domestic league campaign despite other European countries managing to complete theirs,  has not yet declared whether he is running again when his term ends in March.

But if he does, the 78-year-old he will take on businessman Michel Moulin, current deputy chairman of French fourth-tier club Blois Foot 41 and former sports adviser of Paris St Germain who has become the second figure to announce he is standing after Frédéric Thiriez, former president of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP).

“The federation must be at the service of the clubs and vice versa ,”  Moulin told French media in announcing his candidacy.

Last September Le Graët, never far from controversy, came under further criticism when asserting that racism was not present in French football despite numerous incidents of abuse of players in recent seasons.
