May 9 – The game between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund on May 25 at Wembley Stadium is the game every German football fan wants to get tickets for – an all-German final of the Champions League!
The demand for tickets exceeds the 86,000 capacity of the stadium for the event many times over, but fans have been snapping up tickets on the internet at surprisingly low prices.
The tickets the fans are buying are real enough, but when they arrive in the post, the fans realise they are not for the final they were dreaming of. Two days before the men’s final, VfL Wolfsburg take on Olympique Lyon, also in London (at Stamford Bridge), in the Champions League Final for women, with tickets at just £10 (€12) and £5 (€6).
In their haste to get a ticket for the game of their dreams at a cut price, fans have sadly failed to pay attention to the small print.
To get to the actual men’s final requires a lot of luck, money or powerful connections. Each of the clubs receives nearly 25,000 tickets, almost all of which will go to season ticket holders and club members. Borussia have had 500,000 applications for a further 1,250 places.
27,000 tickets will go to the top sponsors and partners of UEFA and 9,000 tickets were raffled off by UEFA up until mid-March – before anyone knew who would make it to the final.
