Dog stops play. Cookie’s pitch invasion crumbles as he feels FC Zurich president’s bite

February 23 – As far as reasons go for a match being stopped in mid-stream, this one surely took the biscuit – so to speak.

A Swiss top-flight game between FC Zurich vs Sion was interrupted on Sunday when the Zurich president’s dog invaded the pitch.

Cookie (pictured) – a white swiss shepherd – bounded on to the pitch after 40 minutes, stopping the game for a brief period.

It quickly became apparent that the hound was the personal property of Zurich president Ancillo Canepa who jogged down the stadium steps to retrieve Cookie before the referee restarted the action.

Neither team had the “lead”  at the time and the game finished 1-1.
