March 16 – FIFA is intensifying its fight against match-fixing by linking up with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) over its Global Integrity Programme.
Under the agreement, FIFA will provide resources to all 211 member associations to help set up successful and sustainable initiatives based around education and building capacity in an area that is perhaps the biggest threat to the competitive integrity of the game globally.
Virtual workshops for member associations and integrity officers will start this month.
“Match-fixing is an issue that is very real and threatens the integrity and credibility of football in many countries around the world,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
“The FIFA Global Integrity Programme is another important step by FIFA to protect the integrity of football and will play an important role in educating and building capacity within member associations to help fight match-fixing at a local level.”
The programme is organised regionally, with member associations of the Asian Football Confederation the first to undertake the workshop programme.
