May 27 – The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has moved this year’s edition of the biannual SAFF Championship, to be held in Kathmandu, forward by two weeks.

The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has announced the new dates will be from September 1 to 11 in place of the earlier scheduled September 18 to 30.

The reason for the tournament date change is due to a clash with the two other tournaments of Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Nepali league champion Laxmi Bank Three Star and Pakistan´s KRL Football Club are scheduled to play the AFC President´s Cup from September 23-29 whilst East Bengal of India and New Radiant FC of the Maldives are due to participate in the AFC Cup from September 17-24.

Nepal are hosting this edition of the tournament, also called the South Asian Football Federation Cup (previously South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup), which is the main competition governed by SAFF for men’s national teams of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The competition has historically been dominated by India who have won 6 of the nine editions to date, coming second twice.
