April 13 – Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean international Son Heung-min is the latest English Premier League player to be targeted with racist abuse on social media.
Son was involved in an incident which saw a goal from Edinson Cavani ruled out by VAR in the first half as Tottenham lost 3-1 to Manchester United on Sunday.
Scott McTominay was harshly adjudged to have fouled Son in the build-up to what would have been the opening goal. Son went down clutching his face after the accidental challenge and suffered horrendous abuse later.
“Another matchday and more abhorrent racial abuse suffered by one of our players,” Tottenham said in a statement.
“This has again been reported to the platforms and we shall now undertake a full review alongside the Premier League to determine the most effective action moving forward. “
Son’s team mate Davinson Sanchez was recently also targeted while a plethora of players at other Premier League clubs have suffered the same fate.
