June 13 – CVMóvel, a subsidiary of Portugal Telecom in Cape Verde and the Cape Verde Football Federation have renewed their sponsorship partnership for a further three years, whilst launching the CVMóvel Blue Sharks, aimed at training a new generation of Cape Verde players.
The CVMóvel Blue Shark programme is aimed at children and young people 6 to 14 years old with potential and ambition to become new football talents. It is looking to identify and develop Cape Verde’s next generation of footballers.
The programmes is scheduled to start in September in Praia and Mindelo, before being expanded to other areas and eventually benefiting 120 children. Those children selected for the programme will train twice a week.
Many famous players of Cape Verdean origin such as Patrick Vieira, Nani and Henrik Larsson have opted to play for other countries but Cape Verde recently reached the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations for the first time and currently sit in 75th place in the FIFA rankings.
