June 25 – UEFA have appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to investigate “potential discriminatory incidents” during Euro 2020 Group F match between Germany and Hungary at Munich’s Allianz Arena.

“In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding potential discriminatory incidents which occurred in the Football Arena Munich, during the UEFA EURO 2020 group stage match between the national teams of Germany and Hungary (2-2) played on 23 June 2021,” Uefa said a statement on Friday.

“Information on this matter will be made available in due course.”

Before kick-off, various NGO’s handed out rainbow flags to fans outside the stadium and a protester invaded the pitch waiving a rainbow flag. Munich mayor Dieter Reiter wanted to protest against Viktor Orban’s new anti-gay law.

It’s the second time in quick succession that UEFA have opened an investigation into a Hungary match. Hungary’s draw with France is also under scrutiny after images on social media showed banners with ‘Anti-LMBTQ’. Hungarian fans also marched to the stadium, calling for players to stop taking the knee.
