July 7 – Entertainment broadcaster MTV will broadcast La Liga exclusively in India for the next three years.
Viacom18, the joint venture between Reliance Industries-owned Network18 and US-based Viacom Inc, has picked up exclusive media rights for the Spanish top flight.
It means that La Liga will once again be available to the Indian audience after the league didn’t have a broadcast partner for the last two years. Viacom18 will also hold all digital rights in India.
“We are excited to partner with Viacom18 (MTV India) and further bolster the LaLiga fandom to an ever-growing football fan base in India,” said La Liga executive director Oscar Mayo.
“Having set one of the highest standards of football globally and India gaining tremendous momentum, we are confident that we will reach and engage with the youthful audience that MTV as a destination appeals to.’
Previously, Facebook held the rights.
The new La Liga season kicks off on August 13.
