July 14 – The Belgian FA has lifted the transfer ban of both Standard Liège and Mouscron, allowing the pair of clubs to enter the market again before the 2021/22 season kicks off.
Standard’s provisional transfer ban was imposed by the FA at the end of last month because the club did not comply with club licensing rules. More specifically, Standard violated the obligation for professional clubs to demonstrate that wages have been paid as well as social security contributions, insurance premiums, federal debts and taxes.
Even so, Standard was handed a license, but the club’s finances were under constant monitoring and when the club failed to offer sufficient proof of its ongoing payments the FA slapped Standard with a transfer ban that ban has now been lifted.
Mouscron, a club linked to agent Pini Zahavi, were relegated from the Belgian top flight last season and to compound matters were handed a transfer ban at the start of July because of a financial conflict with French champions and sister club Lille.
The French club had committed to providing funds for Mouscron to take players on loan from Lille, but with the exit of Lille owner Gerard Lopez that plan became complicated.
The FA has now lifted Mouscron’s ban and newly appointed coach Enzo Scifo has been tasked with leading the club back to the big time.
