July 21 – Univision is reporting its highest viewing figure in the US for the group stages of the Gold Cup since 2011 and overall a 25% increase across matches aired so far.
Broadcast on TUDN, the Spanish-language broadcaster delivered 3.79 million Total Viewers 2+ and 2.04 million Adults 18-49 for the group deciding game between Mexico and El Salvador at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.
It was a game that Mexico needed to win to top the group having surprisingly drawn their opening match against Trinidad and Tobago 0-0. They play again on Saturday night in Glendale, Arizona, against Honduras in the quarter final – another must-win game if they are going to retain the crown they won in 2019.
Generally TUDN’s broadcasts of the Gold Cup are up 25% among Total Viewers 2+ and 28% with Adults 18-49 through the first 20 contests of Group Stage that ended last night in Houston and Orlando.
For the tournament so far, Univision networks are averaging 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+ and 597,000 Adults 18-49.
Perhaps most importantly for the growth of soccer in the US, the numbers for the Mexico vs El Salvador group game beat the Copa América final in which Lionel Messi’s Argentina triumphed over Brazil and were substantially ahead of the Euro 2020 Euro final that saw Italy beat England on penalties.
