July 23 – Premier League Watford, returning to the top flight after just a year in the Championship, have signed a record multi-year partnership with crypto casino and sports betting platform Stake.com.
The groundbreaking deal will see the club paid in cryptocurrency though no value for the sponsorship has been given in either cryptocurrency or a sterling equivalent, though value is likely to be around the £2 million mark according to industry estimates.
It is not Watford’s first cryptocurrency deal having previously had Bitcoin as a sleeve sponsor.
Stake, founded in 2017, is one of the leaders in cryptocurrency, with over 30 billion transactions per year and accounting for more than 5% of Bitcoin transactions worldwide. The Watford deal is its first in football and it will use the Premier League’s global distribution to drive expansion of its global proposition as well as the launch of its UK website.
Watford said Stake will be running crypto-themed initiatives, including a 10 million Dogecoin giveaway on their international platform. UK audiences can expect multiple other promotions and giveaways.
Scott Duxbury, Watford FC chairman and CEO, said: “This will be an extremely exciting campaign for the club as we return to the Premier League and we couldn’t be happier to join with a partner who match our ambitious outlook and commitment to innovation in order to achieve success.”
Mladen Vuckovic, Stake.co.uk CEO said: “The past few years have seen consistent growth for Stake and this partnership with Watford marks the next chapter for our company. We could not be more thrilled to partner with a club that has such immense history yet still a true innovative spirit. We’re committed to becoming a key part of the Watford family and have a number of exciting initiatives planned for fans over the coming months!”
