August 17 – China’s Tencent has acquired the non-exclusive streaming rights for the Bundesliga in China in a two-season deal.
Tencent will expand its coverage to live and on-demand matches, streaming the games on Tencent’s primary videos streaming platform Tencent Video, Tencent Sports, WeChat, Tencent News, Weishi, QQ Browser, Tencent Kandia, and Aurora TV.
The agreement comes after the streaming deal with PP Sports, which faced financial difficulty, collapsed. Tencent also has deals for UEFA club competitions and the English Premier League.
Last weekend, the new campaign kicked off in the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach holding defending champions Bayern Munich 1-1 while Borussia Dortmund thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 in their curtain raiser. The German giants meet on Wednesday in the domestic Super Cup.
