August 2 – The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) has been accepted as a member of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) Consultative Committee.

EPAS has 25 organisations as its members including UEFA sand the IOC and was set up by the Council of Europe.

The ICSS is already an official partner of the Council of Europe. as it works towards a draft international convention to combat the manipulation of sports results.

The organisation will share the output of the ICSS-University Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne partnership. This will include the findings of the ICSS’s research programme on ‘Ethics and Sport Security’. Tis research is focused on the links between international gambling and the manipulation of sports results for the betting market – match fixing.

Chris Eaton, Director of Sport Integrity, ICSS, said: “The Council of Europe and its EPAS initiative are leading in developing governmental solutions to the existing plague of corruption of sport results for betting fraud purposes. This is the biggest challenge international sport faces today.

“As a member of the EPAS Consultative Committee, the ICSS will share the extensive work it has been doing in this field, particularly the research work undertaken by the University Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne. The ICSS shares the sense of urgency expressed by the Council and looks forward to assisting EPAS to turn its work into preventative and responding action.”

The EPAS provides a platform for intergovernmental sports cooperation between the public authorities of its member states and encourages dialogue between public authorities, sports federations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
