September 27 – Corinthians retained their women’s league crown in Brazil on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Palmeiras, winning a third overall league title and becoming the most successful club in domestic women’s football.
Adriana and Vic Albuquerque, with a bicycle kick, as well as Agustina’s own goal ensured Corinthians took an unassailable lead before half-time. Camilinha pulled one back for the visitors in the second half, but to little avail. Corinthians had also won the first leg 1-0.
The Sao Paulo club has become the dominant force in the Brazilian women’s game. Ferrovaria also held two league titles, but with Sunday’s victory Corinthians, who also won the Copa Libertadores in 2017 and 2019, have gone one better.
Corinthians were handed €46,440 eurs in prize money, 0,87% of the €5.28 million the winner of the men’s league gets. Runners-up Palmeiras got €30,426 in prize money. This season’s prize money represents an increase from the last campaign, but still lags way behind the prize pot in the Serie A.
