Spurs line up pre-season tour to South Korea

February 21 – Tottenham Hotspur, who yesterday ignited the chase for the Premier League title with a stoppage time win over Manchester City, have announced they will visit South Korea for their pre-season tour ahead of the 2022/23 season.

It will be the first time Spurs have toured internationally since 2019. They will play two exhibition matches in the Coupang Play Series, organised and promoted by Pitch International and Coupang. The dates, opponents and venues are to be announced.

Spurs have built a strong relationship with South Korea, and are the most-supported Premier League club in the country – a following driven by Heung-Min Son and So-hyun Cho, who are South Korea’s Men’s and Women’s national team captains.

The pre-season tour is supported by the club’s main sponsor AIA, who also backed tours to Asia in 2015, 2017 and 2019. The club will travel with its development coaches who will deliver a technical-based programme for local young players and coach education workshops.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: “Being able to take our team overseas during pre-season is always a key part of the preparation for any forthcoming season … A trip to Korea, in particular, is long overdue – we are well aware of the incredible support we have there, with many fans travelling to London to watch our matches in recent years.”

Spurs has four Official Supporters’ Clubs in South Korea – Boryeong Spurs, Daegu Spurs, Gangwon-Do Spurs and South Korea Spurs – and last year launched @Spurs_KR, a Korean Twitter account. It also has a dedicated Korean language website.

As well as commercial partnerships with AIA and Kumho Tyre, Spurs has nine official licensees in Korea – Organica, SJ Trend, Hana Industry, Viva Sports, Xenics Creative, SGO International, Bullsone, Dong-A Otsuka and SK Chemicals.
