February 21 – Asian futsal has been a solid success story with national teams competing with parity on the global level and club sides attracting fan attention across the region in the AFC’s Futsal championships.
The AFC is taking a step further with the professionalisation of the club game with the pilot implementation of a futsal club licensing beginning this year.
The objective is to boost professional standards of clubs and leagues, with clubs aiming to compete in the AFC Futsal Club Championship 2023 being tasked to show best efforts to meet the entry requirements which will be made mandatory with the 2024 edition of the competition.
The club licensing criteria comprises five main categories – sporting, infrastructure, personnel and administrative, legal, and financial.
AFC General Secretary Windsor John said: “Futsal development plays an essential role in growing the passion for the game.
“Club Licensing has been a pivotal development tool for Asian football in the last decade with our club competitions now well recognised as amongst the best in world football and we are confident that this latest implementation will strengthen the foundations for the AFC’s Member Associations to reach new heights of professionalism in the coming years.”
The AFC will provide a series of workshops to help clubs and leagues understand and implement the licensing criteria.
