March 16 – With North Korea having withdrawn completely from the international football scene during the pandemic, the AFC has moved to replace their national age-group teams that had qualified for the U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 and U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022.
The AFC Women’s Football Committee last October anticipated North Korea’s likely difficulty in preparing teams and had agreed the next highest ranked team from the respective qualification competitions would represent Asia.
Australia, who finished fourth in the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019, will now join Japan and Korea Republic as Asia’s three representatives at the U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022, which will be held from August 10 to 28.
China PR, who finished third in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Thailand 2019, will join Japan and host India as the AFC’s three representatives at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 scheduled to take place from October 11 to 30.
