VAR to make semi-final debut in Conference League

April 22 – UEFA will introduce the video assistant referees (VAR) for the last four of the Conference League, the European governing body has announced.

In a brief statement, Nyon confirmed that the semi-finals of the Conference League, the new, third-tier competition UEFA introduced this season, will benefit from the video technology.

England’s Leicester City play Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma while Olympique Marseille will face Feyenoord, who last won a European trophy in 2002. The first leg of the semi-finals will be played on 28 April with the return matches slated for 5 May.

The Albanian capital Tirana will host the competition’s final at the Arena Kombëtare on 25 May. Previously, UEFA confirmed that the VAR will also be in operation for the Conference League’s showpiece match.

UEFA added that “The possible deployment of VAR in prior stages of the competition next season is currently under assessment.”
