TelevisaUnivision secure key Concacaf rights package in US in three-year deal

May 24 – Concacaf has agreed a major new three-year broadcast deal with TelevisaUnivision for Spanish-language media rights in the US.

The agreement covers the next three years of the Concacaf Champions League as well as the 2023 edition of the Gold Cup and this summer’s W Championship that kicks off in July in Monterrey.

TelevisaUnivision has an ambition to be the biggest Spanish-language streaming service in the world with its ViX service. Some games will be broadcast on this platform, said Concacaf.

Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani said of the TelevisaUnivision partnership: “They consistently deliver fantastic coverage of our competitions, and we look forward with great anticipation to continue working together as we head into a hugely positive time for the ongoing growth of the game in Concacaf,”

The deal also includes two editions of the Concacaf Men’s U20 Championship, beginning with the tournament in Honduras in June 2022, as well as two editions of the Concacaf Men’s U17 Championships, two editions of the Concacaf Beach Soccer Championships and one edition of the Concacaf Futsal Championship.

“Our competitions are of great interest to the Spanish speaking audience in the United States, which includes millions of passionate soccer fans,” said Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio. “TelevisaUnivision does a tremendous job to elevate Concacaf football with those fans and we are very pleased this renewal will see our partnership continue through 2025.”

Concacaf has undergone a major revision of its competition structures as it has built back from the covid pandemic. The 2023 Champions League will be the last in the current format before am expansion in 2024 which will see more teams from across the region and more matches.

The just completed Champions League broke a number of records and showed the growing importance of the competition with a record 68,741 crowd and US TV audience of 1.5 million.

TelevisaUnivision has been a Concacaf partner for more than a decade.
