November 5 – FIFA president Sepp Blatter should take note, nice hair could be a contributing factor in the race to top the Twitter charts. Stats from Twittercounter of the 100 most followed accounts show just 5 football clubs or football players making the list.
Cristiano Ronaldo (@cristiano – he seems to have dropped his CR7 moniker these days) comes in top of the football entries at 15th with 22.381 million followers. He follows just 83 accounts.
Top of the 100 list is Katy Perry with 46.574 million followers, next is Justin Bieber with 46.542 million followers and third is Lady Gaga with 40.411 million followers – all have nice or interesting hair. Fourth on the list is Barack Obama with 39.329 million followers – he has hair.
Cristiano is just ahead of Oprah and just behind Shakira.
Shakira’s boyfriend is Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué who has 7.24 million followers, including Wayne Rooney. If there was a list of Twitter power couples with football connections then Piqué and Shakira would probably top it. Move over Posh and Becks, the world is changing. But all four have nice hair.
After Ronaldo in the football list, comes former Real Madrid teammate and super sub (now reinventing himself in Milan) Kaka, with 17.244 million followers. He is a bit more social than Ronaldo, following 443, but then he probably needs a few more friends.
There is then a long drop to the next football entries, with Barcelona FC coming in at 61st with 10.438 million followers, ahead of Spanish rivals Real Madrid with 9.342 million followers.
The final footballer to make the top 100 is Wayne Rooney – he has had hair replacement work done. He follows 180 accounts.
Bucking the ‘you-need-hair’ trend is the Dalai Lama in a reassuring 91st position. He doesn’t follow anyone.
