August 11 – Morocco will host the Women’s Africa Cup for a second consecutive time in 2024 following a decision by the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Moroccans hosted this year’s tournament, reaching the final before losing to South Africa, who claimed a maiden title. It was the first time a North African country had hosted the competition. The organisation was deemed a success in terms of matchday operations, attendances, quality of play and media visibility.
With CAF president Patrice Motsepe calling it “the best women’s Afcon in history”, the confederation quickly decided to award the hosting rights for the next tournament to the Kingdom again, without much of a bidding process.
The 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations was staged at three venues in Casablanca and Rabat and the for first time was expanded to a 12-team format.
It’s unclear whether any other nations came forward with a bid or expressed an interest in hosting the tournament.
The 2024 tournament will be the 15th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, first staged in 1991.
