December 10 – Last weekend’s fan violence in Brazil, at the final round of the season’s Serie A fixtures, has not put off a scramble for World Cup match tickets, with 86% of requests for match tickets coming from Brazilian fans.
FIFA has reported a record 1,179,363 World Cup match tickets were requested in the first 24 hours of the third round of on-line sales going live.
The sales window is open to 30 January 2014 at www.FIFA.com/tickets and tickets are available for 62 of the 64 matches.
FIFA has said that “where that the number of requests received per product and category exceeds the number of tickets available, a lottery will be held to determine the successful applicants.”
There are no tickets available for the opening match and the final within the general sales window but FIFA has released tickets for the opening match June 12 in Sao Paulo between Brazil and Croatia to members of the participating member association scheme (PMA).
16% of tickets in stadiums have been allocated to national team fans (8% for country). Applicants for these PMA tickets must reside in the country or be a national of the country they want to watch. Again, if there is an oversubscription for these tickets, then they will allocated via a random draw.
Ticket requests by country:
1. Brazil – 1,014, 252
2. USA – 38,009
3. Argentina – 30,659
4. Chile – 23,014
5. Colombia – 12,103
6. Mexico – 11,580
7. Australia – 8,064
8. Germany – 6,556
9. England – 6,469
