January 7 – CONCACAF has announced dates for its Champions League final stages. Played over two legs, the quarter finals feature three teams from Mexico, three from the US, and one each from Costa Rica and Panama. The winners qualify for FIFA Club World Cup 2014.
The first match will be a Central American showdown on Monday, March 10, with Costa Rica’s Alajuelense hosting Arabe Unido of Panama at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto Scotiabank.
Then come two days of US vs Mexico match-ups. The San Jose Earthquakes will host Toluca on March 11, and on March 12 Cruz Azul will play Sporting Kansas City in Kansas, while Club Tijuana will meet the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center in LA.
Return legs will be played the following week, March 18 -20
The first and second legs of the semifinals will be played from April 1-3 and April 8-10, respectively. The semifinal pairings will pit the winner of Toluca-San Jose Earthquakes against the winner of Arabe Unido- Alajuelense, while the Cruz Azul-Sporting KC winner will play the side that emerges from the Club Tijuana-LA Galaxy match-up.
The semifinal winners will meet in the two-leg CONCACAF Champion League Final, which will be played April 15-17 and April 22-24.
