January 27 – It took a long time in gestation and it intends to be around for even longer. The Canadian Premier League (CPL) is marking its fifth season with a celebratory logo as it continues to build.
The eight-team league that has Vancouver FC joining as a new franchise in 2023 but is losing Edmonton FC after it failed to meet club licensing criteria, kicks off early April. The logo was unveiled ahead of the announcement of the 2023 regular season schedule.

“While taking a moment to celebrate this achievement, we understand our journey is just getting started and much work remains to achieve our dreams as a League and sport.”
The new logo, which will be used in conjunction with the League’s original emblem over the season pulls elements from that logo through a consistent colourway of pitch green, night sky blue and ocean blue.
“The reoccurring use of the maple leaf serves as a nod to the League’s continued commitment to being a leader in the development of soccer in Canada, while the oversized No. 5 is a clear reminder of where the League stands today,” said the CPL.
Founded as Canada’s Tier 1 domestic men’s professional league, its mission is to provide opportunities for Canadian players to showcase their abilities on the global soccer scene, and develop homegrown talent for the national team.
