February 6 – Jesse Marsch has been dismissed as Leeds United manager following a run of disappointing results, the club announced today.
In the weekend, Leeds lost to Nottingham Forest which left Leeds just one place above the relegation zone and level on points with troubled Everton.
In a statement, Leeds said: “Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties. Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season. Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club.
“We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future. The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.”
Marsch only won four league games this season with Leeds and the latest defeat against Forest prompted the club to act decisively.
Last year, Marsch had become the third American coach in the Premier League as he replaced Marcelo Bielsa. The American steered the club away from relegation on the final day of last season with a dramatic victory against Brentford.
Ultimately, with inconsistent results in the 2022-23 season, the American lasted less than a year at Leeds. He has previously managed the New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig and Montreal Impact.
