January 16 – The prospect of a women’s Club World Cup to mirror the men’s event has reportedly moved a step following the first session of the FIFA Task Force for Women’s Football, chaired by Moya Dodd, the Australian co-opted member of FIFA’s Executive Committee.
The Task Force was set up late last year with the idea of identifying priorities for women’s football and where it might be in years to come.
During its first session, the new grouping discussed the current status of the sport and focused on the creation of a new strategy for women’s football in the short and longer term.
It is understood creation of a women’s Club World Cup was among the discussions though it would take some time to set up. While the sport is well established in some parts of the globe, that certainly cannot be said for others.
But after what she described as a “constructive” first meeting, Dodd was bullish about the future. “We now need to implement our proposals and work to bring our views and ideas into reality,” she said.
