January 20 – Moses Swaibu has become the third English Conference player to be charged with conspiracy to defraud. He, along with former teammates Michael Boateng and Hakeem Adelakun, played for Whitehawk FC, a Conference South team based in Brighton.
All three were allegedly involved with an international betting syndicate that attempted to fix matches in exchange for sums of £50,000.
Born in Croydon, Swaibu spent time in the youth academy at Crystal Palace before having a spell at Lincoln City where he made 78 appearances from 2008-2011.
He joined Whitehawk FC in 2013 but left in November after making only four appearances.
Last November, the UK’s National Crime Agency arrested Boateng and Adelakun after charging Chann Sankaran and Krishna Sanjey Ganeshan, two Singaporean linked individuals. Boateng and Adelakun were charged in December and subsequently sacked by their club.
Swaibu is due to appear in court on January 21.
