February 23 – Ali Abdi Mohamed is the new president of the Somali FA. He was elected unopposed at the third time of asking and will serve a four-year term.
The elections had been stopped twice by the government in November last year and on February 1.
Abdi Mohamed (pictured), formerly a Vice President of the federation, had been serving as the acting President since the dismissal of Abdiqani Said Arab at an extra ordinary congress a year ago for breaking SFF statutes and corruption.
The alleged offences involved misappropriation of funds related to two FIFA projects, notably in Mogadishu and Kismayo.
The new man in charge promised “to take football to a better level in Somalia.”
“Last year was a historical day when our U-17 team lifted the CECAFA title and qualified for the first time for the U-17 AFCON,” he said.
