March 15 – The winners of the four editions of the Concacaf Champions League – from 2021 to 2024 – will be the confederation’s four qualifiers for the first of the expanded versions of the Club World Cup in 2025.
There will be 32 clubs in the 2025 competition, the dates and venues of which have still to be announced.
Mexico’s CF Monterrey and Seattle Sounders (pictured) from the MLS are the first two Concacaf qualifiers as Confederation champions in 2021 and 2022 respectively
They will be joined by the winners of the 2023 (current edition) and the 2024 Champions.
If one club wins the CCL title twice in the 2021-2024 period of competitions, then the next best team in the FIFA rankings would qualify. Details of the ranking system are to be announced.
No more than two clubs from the same country can qualify for the Club World Cup, though Concacaf has an exception should more than two clubs from the same country win the CCL over the 2021-24 period. Mexican clubs have had a stranglehold over the Concacaf Champions League, though the last edition was one by a club from the MLS for the first time.
The 2023 edition of the CCL is underway with Round of 16 2nd Leg matches taking place this week. LAFC, Vancouver Whitecaps, Olimpia (Honduras) and Violette (Haiti) all take commanding leads into the second legs. The other ties are evenly balanced.
