Turkish FA accelerates into new Mercedes deal with addition of women’s team and esports

March 22 – The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and the German car maker Mercedes-Benz have extended their existing 27-year partnership.

At a signing yesterday the two parties unveiled an expansion of the men’s national team sponsorship to include Mercedes-Benz now becoming the main sponsor also of the women’s national team, as well as the Turkish e-sports Team.

Mehmet Büyükekşi (pictured), the president of the Turkish Football Federation, opened with a call to the football world to join the campaign to raise funds for the victims of last month’s devastating earthquakes in Turkey. The campaign, which is named #OmuzOmuza (#ShoulderToShoulder), started on March 1 and will continue until June 15.

“Today we are renewing our contract with Mercedes-Benz, which has been our partner for 27 years. With the renewal of the agreement, Mercedes-Benz became the main sponsor not only of our Men’s National Team, but also of our Women’s National Team as well as our e-National Team. We express our gratitude to them for this strong partnership”, said Büyükekşi.

No value or term was given for the new contract.

Büyükekşi said the TFF is re-committing to providing assistance to local clubs and supporting coach training, player development and its programme for the increased inclusion of women in football.

“In recent years, our clubs have made major investments in women’s football. We strongly believe that our women’s national team, which has accumulated the most points in the world rankings since October, will continue its success under the sponsorship of Mercedes-Benz.

In addition, the Turkish Football Federation is implementing important projects in the field of digitization and technology. We have delivered the eSuper League as we promised when we took over. Our e-national team is also competing in the FIFA eNations Cup 2023,” he added.

“Mercedes’ name is inspired by a girl and a star whose rays symbolize air, earth and sea. We have little girls running enthusiastically on the pitches, soccer players who fight and national teams proudly wearing the star and crescent on their chests. I would like to thank the management and employees of Mercedes-Benz, who have been among the biggest supporters of Turkish football and the Turkish Football Federation for years,” said Büyükekşi.
