January 31 – Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have launched a digital platform to cater for their expanding Chinese fanbase in the region. Accessible only through the club’s website, the platform can be viewed in English and Mandarin.
The launch of the platform is well timed with the currently celebrating their New Year. The site carries Year of the Horse video content and contributions from Tottenham Hotspur Official Supporters Groups based in China. Branches currently exist in Beijing, Huadong, Huazhong, Shanghai, TianJin and Hong Kong.
There are also details of the club’s partnership with Hong Kong-based South China FC.
Spurs have built a global following that the clubs reckons to be in excess of 180 million, with strong supporter bases across the UK, the USA, China, Asia and Southern Africa.
The Chinese site has been promoted across Spurs’ Chinese social media channels on Sina, Tencent, Weibo and YouKu. Infleuntial local bloggers have also been used to promote the platform to a wider Chinese audience.
At White Hart Lane the site was promoted on pitchside LED screens for the home game against Manchester City earlier this week, with New Year good luck messages also being displayed. Chinese users also have the opportunity to win replica shirts signed by first team players including Hugo Lloris and Erik Lamela.
