Relevent returns to club market with EPL and LaLiga clubs in US and Mexico this summer

April 12 – Six Premier League clubs will play nine matches against each other in a friendly series on the East Coast of the US this July, while four LaLiga clubs will do the same at venues in Mexico and the US on the West Coast.

The friendly match-ups mark a return to the men’s club market for Relevent Sports Group, organisers of the summer International Champions Cup friendly series that was cut short in 2020 by the pandemic.

Newcastle United, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham and Brentford will compete in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey and Maryland in the US July 22-30 in what is being marketed as the first ever Premier League Summer Series on the East Coast of the US.

LaLiga’s Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, Sevilla and Real Betis will play in Guadalajara (Estadio Akron) and Monterrey (BBVA) in Mexico on August 2, and at Oracle Park in San Francisco in a double header on August 5.

The return to the men’s club game for Relevent comes after the 2020 suspension of the pre-season International Champions Cup that was played annually from 2013 to 2019 in the US and Asia and included some games in Europe. The tournament exclusively featured top tier European clubs.

With Covid forcing the men’s event off, in 2021 and 2022 Relevent organised a women’s Champions Cup. In 2022 the event was hosted in Portland Thorns’ Providence Park and featured Olympique Lyonnais, Chelsea and CF Monterrey alongside the Thorns.

A US sports marketing businesRelevent have established a foothold in the European club market with its LaLiga North America joint venture, a UEFA Media Rights partnership, and its International Champions Cup properties (Men’s, Women’s, and Youth).

Relevent is part of the Stephen Ross portfolio of companies, which includes the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, F1 Miami Grand Prix, and Miami Open Tennis.
