April 20 – England’s women have been handed a major injury scare just months before the World Cup this summer after captain Leah Williamson limped out of Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at WSL title rivals Manchester United on Wednesday.
Williamson collapsed in pain in the 12th minute seemingly catching her studs in the ground and appearing to damage her knee.
The extent of the defender’s injury is not yet known but she left the stadium on crutches.
Losing her skipper would be a crucial blow to Sarina Wiegman’s European champions, with the Women’s World Cup set to take place in July.
With less than 100 days to go before the tournament, England have already most likely lost striker Beth Mead to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered in November.
