NYFC give first look to fans of planned new stadium in Queens

May 12 – MLS club New York City FC, who play their home games at the Yankees baseball stadium, have released the first images of their planned new stadium in Queens, New York.

The soccer-specific stadium will have a 25,000 capacity and will cost $780 million to build. Completion is scheduled for 2027.

The new stadium at Willets Point is part of a regeneration project that will improve infrastructure in the area. The club and its partners said the stadium will become the best soccer-specific facility in North America.

The overall project will in total cover 3.3 million sq ft of development including 2,500 units of affordable housing, a 250-bed hotel and retail shops, a new 650-seat public elementary school and 115,000 sq ft of public open space.

The project is financed by a mix of public and private money and is estimated will create 16,500 jobs which will be prioritised to local workers.
The club said that being a part of the local community is central to their future plans and will work within the localWillets Point community to provide year-round activations, including community events and programming in and around the stadium.

The club has already started taking membership information from fans via their website.
