February 17 – Levski Sofia owner Todor Batkov (pictured) says that the Russian energy giant Gazprom is still an option for the main sponsorship of the club. The Russian company has frequently been named in connection with the Bulgarian cub for almost for two years, but there has been no firm developments to date.
Baktov, a lawyer, spoke while attending the official establishment of Levski’s Supporters Trust – Blue Bulgaria.
“I do not want to speak on the topic for Gazprom because we have many detractors who are trying to attract Gazprom on to their side. I will only say that they are still an option for main sponsorship of Levski. In March there will be information about Gazprom. What we are waiting for is goodwill from the Bulgarian side,” said Batkov who commented generally on the sponsorship situation at the club.
“VTB Capital Bank is terminating its contract with us, but I have no information that they will start giving money to another club in Bulgaria. I do not care. We have had very good relations with Mtel for many years and I hope that they will continue to help us. It does not bother me that they have become sponsor of Litex too.
“I approve the establishment of the trust. Our fans are right, they should have a say in the management of the club, but I did not knew they were unhappy with me.
“I am the owner of the most popular club in Bulgaria and carry my cross for this. I am ready to sell shares to the fans as long as they want,” added Batkov.
