Mourinho’s toxic ref ranting earns him another ban in Italy

June 29 – Roma coach José Mourinho is in hot water again after being handed a 10-day suspension for the start of the next Serie A season for comments he made about an Italian referee.

The ban by the Italian FA (FIGC) means Mourinho will miss Roma’s opening match and might also miss the team’s second game, depending on when the fixtures are scheduled.

The Portuguese, who has also managed Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham and shows little sign of reigning in his notorious tantrums, will not be allowed to appear on the touchline or in Roma’s dressing room on matchdays during the first 10 days of the new Italian domestic campaign.

Mourinho wore a microphone to “protect himself” when his Roma side faced Monza in May, but he could still not resist a dig at the referee after the game in May claiming Daniele Chiffi was “the worst referee I have ever seen in my career”.

He was also fined €50,000, as was Roma.

It is the second sanction in a matter of days Mourinho has incurred after being banned for four European games by UEFA last week for abusing English referee Anthony Taylor following Roma’s defeat to Sevilla at the Europa League final.
