Dinamo Bucharest owner in talks with foreign investors over sale

Dinamo Bucharest

March 13 – Romania’s Dinamo Bucharest has been put up for sale. Ionut Negoita, the football club’s owner, is currently negotiating the sale of a majority share in Dinamo, which plays in Liga 1, the top tier of the country’s professional football league.

“We are in talks with two investors, both foreign-based,” Negoita told local broadcaster DigiSport.

Negoita said that potential investors include a group of Arab businessmen, and the price he is expecting to obtain for the majority stake in Dinamo is in the range of €15 million. Should the acquisition go through, Dinamo could become the first Romanian football club to be controlled by foreign investors.

“The situation is serious and there are major problems to be solved. I need a reliable partner,” Negoita said in reference to the club’s financial woes.

The latest move follows a similar decision by Arpad Paszkany, owner of rival CFR Cluj, who earlier this year announced plans to find new investor for the Romanian club.

Paszkany, who became the owner of CFR Cluj in 2001, said that it was “better to eat a thin slice of a delicious cake than eat an entire cake of worse quality” to justify his decision to sell a majority stake in the club.

Set up in 1948, Dinamo is based in Romania’s capital Bucharest. The club’s achievements include 18 Romanian championships, 13 Cups of Romania and two Super Cups.
