Spain and Germany face off in final of Women’s U19 Euros

July 28 – The UEFA Women’s U-19 Championship reaches its conclusion this weekend with Spain meeting Germany in the final on Sunday at the Den Dreef Stadium in Leuven, Belgium.

The eight team finals saw France and the Netherlands top the two groups, beating Spain and Germany respectively to do so.

The French had dominated their group, progressing unbeaten but Germany spoiled their party in the semi-final with a dramatic, last-gasp equaliser. The goal, notched by Paulina Platner in the 93rd minute, offset the brace scored by French striker Louna Ribadeira to tie the game 2-2 after normal time. Deep into extra time, Francisca Kett scored the winning goal in the 115th minute.

Netherlands faced a tough matchup against Group B runners-up Spain with La Roja coming out victorious in a tight 1-0 affair at the Stade Leburton thanks to an early goal from Barcelona midfielder Julia Bartel.

To date the tournament has witnessed 47 goals in 14 matches, averaging 3.36 goals per 90 minutes.

Both Spain and Germany hold four U19 Euros titles, and a win would take either team to the joint top-spot beside France with five.
