‘Concacaf Access’ talking shop wraps up third edition in Honduras

August 31 – Concacaf has completed another edition of its ‘Concacaf Access’ forum in Honduras, following on from previous events in Costa Rica and Guatemala.

“Concacaf Access is a collaboration of media and stakeholders that allows us to discuss the reality of football in Central America, with important perspectives from federations, leagues, clubs, and sponsors. We all share the objective of working to grow football and to strengthen the level of play in the region through new projects, programs, and competitions in Concacaf,” said Philippe Moggio (pictured centre), Concacaf general secretary who led the confederation’s delegation.

A core mission for the forum was to highlight opportunities in Honduran and Central American football, as the region begins a new cycle of Concacaf national team and club football competition in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup.

Five key topics were showcased in a wider discussion: development of women’s football in Honduras; media and new audiences; sport as a bridge between the brand and its consumers (beyond the 90 minutes); local leagues and expansion of Concacaf international tournaments; and the opportunity and challenge of qualification into the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The panels were split up into 20-minute segments and were a mix of presentations, interviews and discussion.

Inclusivity of the women’s game had a special focus with the National Women’s Soccer League in Honduras, as well as an Under-20 league presented by Jorge Salomón and Helga Chávez, President and Director of Women’s Soccer of the Honduran Soccer Federation. The role of women within Concacaf was also discussed.

The final panels included the participation Eduardo Atala and Elías Burbara, presidents of the Motagua and Real España clubs, as well as the coach of the Honduran national team, Reinaldo Rued, and Jorge Salomón, president of the Federation. They discussed upcoming commitments, including the Central American Club Cup, and qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
