September 8 – UEFA has confirmed it will announce the hosts for Euro 2028 and Euro 2032 on October 10, with the United Kingdom and Ireland in pole position for the 2028 tournament.
The UK and Ireland are bidding for the 2028 finals unopposed after the Turkish Football Federation withdrew to concentrate on the 2032 finals.
Turkey will submit a bid together with the Italian Football Federation for the 2032 tournament. An alliance with Italy gives the two countries a clear run to land Euro 2032 with no other bidders in the field.
English FA president Debbie Hewitt has promised a “record-breaking and unforgettable” European Championship if UEFA rubber stamp the hosting rights to the joint-bid.
“We will focus on growing football, connecting with and engaging new fans, players and volunteers,” said Hewitt in April. “Together, we want UEFA Euro 2028 to be the catalyst for a new and sustainable era for football, from the grassroots to the very top of the European game.”
England staged the final stages of Euro 2020, a tournament delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic and played with crowd restrictions. Those finals were followed by a summer of elite women’s football with Euro 2021 in England becoming a record-breaking tournament as well.
Next year’s finals will be staged in Germany across ten host cities under the motto ‘Vereint im Herzen Europas’ (united in the heart of Europe).
The Germans defeated Turkey in the bidding race to land Euro 2024. The group draw for the finals tournament will take place in December in Frankfurt.
