April 16 – Bulgarian football legend Krassimir Balakov is preparing a football academy project inn his name in Sofia. Balakov already has submitted documents in Sofia Municipality with a request for an appropriate site for the Academy.
Balakok is requesting an area of 8-12 acres to set the academy up.
Having finished his playing career Balakov was frequently quoted as saying that for its future success Bulgaria needs a number of private soccer schools. Another Bulgarian football legend, Dimitar Berbatov, also has plans for a football academy in Sofia.
Berbatov, who is understood to have the property for the project, is rumoured to be teaming up with Balaktov.
Another Bulgarian legend Hristo Stoichkov has four football schools – one in Etropole, Bulgaria and another three in Spain, where he made his name in world’s football while playing for Barcelona.
“I do not know how you got this information. I did not deny it, but I can not comment because of the other considerations. Currently I’m in Germany until early May, and then I plan to go back to Bulgaria and then you can call me,” Balakov told Bulgarian paper Trud Daily.
