September 24 – Belgian club Kortrijk have dismissed their coach Edward Still following a dramatic start to the season and moved to name Glen De Boeck as his successor.
On Monday, Kortrijk became the first club of the season in Belgium to part ways with their coach following a 1-0 defeat to Charleroi, leaving the club at the bottom of the table with two points from eight matches. Last season, Still kept Qatari-owned Eupen in the top flight at the expense of Zulte-Waregem.
The club cited the disappointing results as the reason for Still’s dismissal. De Boeck (pictured) will succeed the English manager for a second stint at the West Flemish club.
In 2017, he almost took Kortrijk to the playoffs. De Boeck has previously coached Cercle Brugge, Beerschot, VVV Venlo, Waasland-Beveren, Moeskroen and Lokeren, his last gig in 2019. He could not prevent the Daknam club from getting relegated.
De Boeck is Kortrijk’s fifth coach in 15 months and will take charge of his first match on Friday against local rivals Cercle Brugge.
KV Kortrijk has endured a stormy few months. Earlier this summer, reports had suggested that the Kaminski Group would takeover Kortrijk from Malaysian owner Vincent Tan. The deal was confirmed but remained subject to final approval and ultimately never materialised.
